Concerning Newsletters and Notifications

There have been a few people that have asked that I have a newsletter or new post notification . I’ve looked into this functionality, and as most of you are aware, this is completely do-able on this platform; it seems that every site on the internet has one. At this point, I have two concerns:

  1. I am just getting this off the ground and I have other functions I want to build in. I’m sure this is coming, just not quite yet. I’m one guy doing this for fun (more or less) and I see a community benefit to getting people to save money and cook for themselves.
  2. I am balancing this proposed feature against the cost of this personal, free (to the reader) project, and even the most basic email platform for public notifications costs about the same as the combined domain hosting, DNS and other service charges.

The best estimate I can give is going to be based according to visit traffic and demand. Keep the visits coming, and share the links around, and I will know that it’s time to start up a newsletter and post notifications service when I achieve some minimal but critical mass. I’m sure that you would be amenable to the idea that I not spend several hundred dollars a year without some glimmer of a perceived value from a suitable amount of readers.
