How to Hone and Sharpen Your Kitchen Knives

Beyond a pot, a knife is the most common tool in the kitchen drawer. Eventually, with use, they will dull and will become unsafe as more pressure will be needed to cut through the food and possibly injure you. Also, less effort to dice up your vittles means a quicker and more satisfactory preparation of your meal. Take a few minutes and get your blade in shape.

In the video below, I mention a 20° angle for most American kitchen knives. Others use slightly different angles, like 15° to 24°; if you know what it is for your blade specific to your cutlery, then great! Otherwise, 20° is a good bet for most general purpose blades. Below the video is an image of a compass to give you an idea of a 20 degree angle to emulate for your use.
